María Herrera is a Spanish filmmaker and producer. Her work explores the feminine universe with a special focus on the relationship between the body, the camera and the female desire. She's interested in questioning narrative paradigms and cinematic language in search of a feminist cinema. María is a Goya Spanish Academy Award winner.
She holds an MFA in Screenwriting at CUNY-Brooklyn College. She was ranked most outstanding student of her film school in The Hollywood Reporter and was selected for the BAFTA Newcomers program. Her debut short A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S TALE (El cuento de una noche de verano) as a writer- director premiered in the Official International Section of SEMINCI Valladolid Film Festival, achieving numerous selections and awards, including the Goya and Oscar qualifier First Diamond at ALCINE in 2025.
She’s currently financing her debut feature SINCE YOU’VE BEEN GONE (Desde que tú te has ido), produced and distributed by Golden Bear winners Avalon company. She was recently declared as a Spanish rising star by Screen Daily.
