Barcelona, 1998. Gerard Gil is a director, screenwriter, and assistant director. He graduated in Audiovisual Communication from Pompeu Fabra University, specializing in Screenwriting and Directing, and completed a Master’s degree in Contemporary History and the Contemporary World at the University of Barcelona, with a focus on social and local history. He has also trained in acting for more than five years at schools such as Nancy Tuñón and Estudi Laura Jou. He co-directed the short films Greata (Nausea), finalist in the Nest section of the 2019 San Sebastián International Film Festival and premiered at D’A 2020, and Els peixos no dormen mai (Fish Never Sleep), premiered in the Nova Autoria section of the 2021 Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival and at D’A 2022. He is currently developing the feature film Madre B, set within a shared universe connected to the short film. As an assistant director, he has worked on fiction and advertising projects including the series Sense Filtres, Lisa, Nudes, Vintage, and Jo Mai Mai, all available on 3Cat, as well as short films such as Castells, directed by Blanca Camell; Apartamentos Paradiso, by Víctor Jiménez and Andreu García; and Los Andares, by Isa Luengo and Sofia Esteve. He has also worked on feature films such as Upon Entry (The Arrival) as third assistant director, Salve Maria, and Suro, where he began his professional career. Previously, he worked as a script supervisor for filmmakers including Gerard Oms, Cordelia Alegre, and Miguel Alcalde. Alongside his filmmaking work, he has led audiovisual workshops in educational institutions with the cooperative Nadir and in venues such as CaixaForum Barcelona, Girona or Zaragoza. For over two years, he has worked on projects for the Catalan Film Academy, overseeing production for the Screenwriting Residency.
