Ion de Sosa is a director and cinematographer graduated from ECAM. His first feature film SUEÑAN LOS ANDROIDES was premiered at the Berlinale in 2015 and had an extensive tour in festivals and national and international art centers, such as Viennale, Lincoln Center, Barbican Centre, or the Reina Sofia Museum. It is a free adaptation of Philip K. Dick's They Dream of Androids with Electric Sheep and reflects the constants of his cinema: the use of 16mm, the frontal and open framing, the mixture of genre with touches of science fiction, a very own use of time and composition and a particular sense of humor.
These constants are also found in his work as director of photography in the films of Chema García Ibarra, with whom he has worked closely for years and has co-directed his latest short film, LEYENDA DORADA, premiered at Berlinale 2019 and selected in San Sebastian, Ann Arbor, Palm Springs or the American Film Institute festival. He has been the director of photography of ESPÍRITU SAGRADO, the first feature film by Chema García Ibarra, premiered in the Locarno international competition in 2021, winner of the Feroz Arrebato Fiction Award and the critics' Fotogramas de Plata; of KAREN by María Pérez Sanz, premiered at the Seville festival in 2020; and of EL FUTURO (2013) and the short piece ALIENS (2017) by Luis López Carrasco, both premiered at the Locarno festival.
His most recent works as director of photography are the feature film LA PARRA, by Alberto Gracia, the short film LA NIÑA MÁRTIR, by María Pérez Sanz, and the short film CONTADORES, by Irati Gorostidi (premiered at the Critics' Week of the Cannes Film Festival 2023). His latest feature film as director of photography is EL FANTÁSTICO CASO DEL GOLEM, by Burnin' Percebes, in 2022.
As a director, Ion de Sosa is currently in the development phase of his next feature film, BALEARIC.
In 2017 he founded the production company Apellaniz y de Sosa together with Leire Apellaniz. They have produced ESPÍRITU SAGRADO, LEYENDA DORADA, FE by Maider Fernández Iriarte, Contadores by Irati Gorostidi and Inmotep by Julián Génisson.
