Aitziber Olaskoaga

Getxo, 1980

Aitziber Olaskoaga studied Film and Audiovisual Media at the ESCAC (Cinema and Audiovisual School of Catalonia), Barcelona, where she majored in cinematography. In 2015 she moved to Los Angeles (USA) thanks to a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. There, she finished the medium length-film LA SONRISA TELEFÓNICA (Smiling on the phone) screened in various festivals in Spain and abroad. The piece received a special mention at the Jih.lava International Documentary Film Festival (Czech Republic).

In recent years she has carried out residencies at Ikusmira Berriak (Donostia, Basque Country), LIFT (Toronto, Canadá), (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico (Coruña, Galicia, Spain) and BilbaoArte (Bilbao, Basque Country) and she has been a fellow at the Flaherty Film Seminar (USA).

Aitziber has just graduated from the Film and Video MFA at California Institute of the Arts (USA), thanks to a grant from the school, where she has been working as the lead projectionist at the school’s theater. JO TA KE is her second medium-length film.
